Hey Candor readers
this is the page where we put what we are doing for our roles in Week 1. Please include your name and what role you are doing in the week. Also please do it or else you will be letting down the group.

Hi this is Maia I was the Vocabulary Enricher.
Some words I think were mentioned a lot in the text and used in a interesting way was…
Messages
The way they were put in the text and were used suggested that they meant a lot more than just plain old message.
It sounded threatening and sinister. In the book they were described as subliminal messages, people were being changed into freakishly perfect people.
Nobody should be perfect.
Another frequently mentioned word was client or clients. This is what Oscar Banks called the kids that he helped to fight the messages. I thought the way it was put into the text sounded like it was the black market as in it was done it absolute secrecy. And the person organising it could be one of Candor’s most trusted and perfect person, the founder’s son.
A word that I didn’t know until it was explained to me was subliminal (messages) and well I know what it means now. It means that messages went into Candor’s citizens minds without them being aware of it but they did what it said because they thought it was them thinking it.

Emotional Identifier-Caitlin
These are the feelings of the main characters for this week’s reading.
Oscar Banks
Frustrated: Oscar was frustrated with the messages. The messages were trying to tell him what to do, but he tries resisting most of them.
Annoyed: Oscar went to the effort of trying to hide his stash and technology from anyone finding out that he actually isn’t brainwashed. If someone found out, then he would be put into the listening room and all his years of fighting the messages would have gone to waste. Oscar is then only to find that it is Sherman, one of his clients, who barges into the shed at the back of the Roxbury. (Oscar wasn’t meant to at the Roxbury, as he told his father that he had decided to go to the library.) Oscar was also annoyed at all the people coming into the Roxbury and he was being rude to them saying things like, “you break it, you buy it” and “I’m guessing you can’t afford this place.” He was waiting on Nia and didn’t need all those people coming into the house.
Hatred: Oscar hated Nia for making him wait at the Roxbury and also for controlling him, like when Nia runs the end of her pencil over his lips and Oscar says he wants her to do it again, but he then says, “No.” Because Nia is, “running the show” and Oscar wants that to stop. Also when Nia finished the drawing of Oscar and he found it, Oscar realized that Nia drew the Oscar that he keeps hidden on a piece of paper and Oscar says, “Nia’s making it hard to want to forget her. I should hate her for it.”
Happy: Oscar seemed happy when he first met Nia and that there was something that made him smile and his stomach flip.
Worried: Oscar was worried about Sherman’s chattiness and that Sherman would tell about his secret business.
Irritation: Oscar was irritated at Sherman for scuffing the cabinets and couldn’t wait for him to leave the town.
Nia Silva
Restless: When Oscar was asking her all these questions at the beginning of the book she was restless and it she wanted to get away from Oscar as she said, “Get lost, crazy boy.”
Annoyed: When Oscar was being stubborn and refused to give the can of spray paint back to her, she seemed annoyed, because she raised her voice and said, “Give it back” but Oscar did not and used it up. When it was Nia’s paint to start with. Also when Oscar comes over and talks to her she tells him to shut up and sit still or go.
Careless: When Oscar threatened Nia that he would tell his dad (the starter of Candor) if he couldn’t come along with her, Nia’s reply was, “So what?” Also when Nia was drawing before school the bell had finished ringing and Nia didn't go to school, she went away from it. Whilst Oscar and Mandi head to school (Oscar only heads to school, so he doesn’t blow his cover).
Worried: When Nia says to Oscar, please don't tell she seemed worried that Oscar would tell.
Musical Director
The piece of music I chose as musical director was a song called ‘I’ve Been Thinking About You’ from the album ‘Huge Hits Of The Nineties’. I chose this song, because the main character Oscar Banks always has Nia Silva, a new girl who has just moved into Candor on his mind and he is always thinking about her.
